Run the Web App

Moment of truth: The app config and database should be ready, so let’s go!

Command Line

This again is ran from the root folder of virtual environment. Although that’s mostly for convenience within this tutorial; not a strict requirement.

Be sure to specify the right config file. Convention is to use app/web.conf for the web app specifically:

wutta -c app/web.conf webapp -r

The -r flag tells the web app to auto-reload when relevant Python modules are modified. Useful in development but should not be used in production.

You can browse the web app at http://localhost:9080

Edit app/web.conf if you need to change the port number etc.

First Admin Account

The first time you ever browse to the web app, you’ll be prompted to create the first admin account.

This should be your “personal” account, which will be granted admin access. Other accounts can be granted admin access later on, there is nothing “special” about the first account per se.

Note that an “admin” account does not typically have extra permissions granted to it, as such. Rather, any “admin” user is able to “become root” (somewhat akin to sudo) which then bypasses all permission checks. This is explained more in the next section.
